My Second trip to Magee Marsh and surrounding areas
Chestnut Sided Warbler
One of my very first photo treks was to Magee Marsh area during the Warbler Migration. So when friends said lets go back I said heck yea!!!
This trip was much different. On my first trip we were still under covid restrictions and not may people were present. You had to have a reservation for a limited time to walk the Boardwalk through one particular area that gave the best opportunities to see the birds.
Scarlet Tanager
Well let me tell you this trip was DIFFERENT!!! Way more people. There were tours that would bring van and bus loads of people. Even with us getting there at sun up there were already crowds. The boardwalk would get jammed up if people were seeing birds. I was surprised they were there was so many people all talking at once moving around pointing and such.
Black Throated Blue Warbler
We found that if we hit the Ottowa Wildlife Area first and drive the roads the opened up for us we would be rewarded with Swans, Sand Hill Cranes, minks, ducks and a few warblers too.
Robin and her babies
Then in the afternoon we would go back to the boardwalk at Magee Marsh and the tours would have moved on way less crowds and still plenty of birds.
Prothonotary Warbler
one of the days we took off to Marble Head to get photos of the Light House. On the way back we stopped at small local park and spotted a Whip-Por-Will.

We had a great time and saw a lot of new birds for me. If you get the chance GO it was a lot of fun. If you would like and follow my FB page.
Until next time!
